Hagen Rether with LOVE: Political cabaret that resonates

On Monday, October 19, 2026, Hagen Rether will perform his award-winning solo program LOVE at the Deutsches Theater Munich. The show starts at 19:00, with doors opening at 18:00. Instead of light belly laughs, Rether serves sharp political cabaret, musical interludes, and punchlines that stick in your head on the way home.

When the piano becomes a political crime scene

Hagen Rether combines stand-up, cabaret, and piano into a unique laughter experience. With precise timing, he dissects societal routines, political contradictions, consumption, religion, media, and globalization. While this sounds like heavy material, it feels surprisingly light on stage: a dry look, an unexpected punchline – and suddenly the comedic atmosphere shifts from chuckling to liberating laughter.

LOVE remains agile and uncomfortable

The program LOVE has been running since 2003 and is continuously updated and varied. Rether responds to the political zeitgeist without letting the current news rush him. His interaction with the audience arises less from classic participation games and more from mental proximity: He exposes contradictions and leaves the visitors with the uncomfortable, often comical realization.

Sharp satire with musical sensitivity

Rether started as a pianist and has been seen alongside cabaret artist Ludger Stratmann for years. This musical background shapes his stage presence. Between the verbal blades, piano passages provide contrast and rhythm. The result is an unusual mix of political satire, observational humor, black humor, and musical cabaret.

Award-winning cabaret at the Deutsches Theater

For his socially critical programs, Hagen Rether has received numerous accolades including the German Cabaret Award, the Prix Pantheon, the Bavarian Cabaret Award, and the German Cabaret Prize. He has also appeared in well-known TV formats such as Scheibenwischer, Mitternachtsspitzen, Neues aus der Anstalt, and Satire Gipfel.

Conclusion: An evening for clever punchlines and uncomfortable laughs

Those looking for cabaret with attitude, pointed social criticism, and musical sensitivity will experience a special evening with Hagen Rether. LOVE brings the audience to laugh, reflect, and occasionally feel inner contradiction – that is where good political cabaret begins. Mark the date at the Deutsches Theater Munich and experience Rether live.
