ATEM & AFFEKT: Historical Sound Worlds in the Munich Residenz
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, ATEM & AFFEKT invites you to the Old Court Chapel of the Munich Residenz for a musical journey through the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Starting at 6:30 PM, traditions from Ukraine, Poland, Italy, and Germany meet in a concert that combines historical timbres, cultural diversity, and expressive musical gestures.
When Music Becomes Breath
The program focuses on works by Maksym Berezovsky, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Andrea Falconieri, Adam Jarzębski, and Georg Philipp Telemann. The selection is complemented by music from the tablature of Jan z Lublin and a work by Polish lutenist Jakob Polak. The historical court chapel provides an immediate, concentrated resonance space.
Virtuosic Dialogues Between Flute and Harpsichord
Special tension arises in the sonatas for recorder and harpsichord. The harpsichord not only accompanies but takes on an independent obligato voice, engaging in an equal dialogue with the flute. Ornamentation, articulation, and rhythmic precision bring the musical rhetoric of the Baroque to life.
Historical Instruments, New Listening Moments
The performance follows historically informed performance practices and utilizes copies of historical instruments from the 16th and 17th centuries. Nataliia Pavliv plays the recorder and sopilka, a Ukrainian flute. Andrij Slota will be heard on the harpsichord, Anna Zimr on Baroque cello and viola da gamba, and Adam Riha on theorbo and lute.
Music as a Cultural Connection
ATEM & AFFEKT connects musical landscapes that rarely resonate in a shared concert program. The Ukrainian sopilka, Polish Renaissance sounds, early Baroque Italian idioms, and German Baroque traditions enter into a multifaceted exchange. This creates a concert experience that intertwines intimate chamber music, historical memory, and contemporary cultural connections.
Conclusion: An Evening for Curious Ears
The audience can expect an atmospheric concert with rarely performed works, colorful instrumentation, and a carefully crafted historical sound language. Those who wish to experience Renaissance and Baroque music in a special setting will discover an evening full of breath, affect, and musical closeness in the Old Court Chapel.
