Accordion meets String Quartet: A Munich Concert between Bach, Tango, and Modernity

On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the Karl Amadeus Hartmann Society in Munich will transform into a resonance space for extraordinary chamber music. The Zentaur Quartet and the internationally renowned accordionist Marko Ševarlić combine classical sound language, contemporary orchestration, and the passionate energy of tango.

Four Works, Four Sound Worlds

The program ranges from Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto for Harpsichord and Strings in F minor BWV 1056 in an arrangement for accordion to Vladimir Genin's Concerto for Accordion and Strings, concluding with Karl Amadeus Hartmann's Little Suite No. 2. The emotional highlight will be Astor Piazzolla's Five Tango Sensations, whose rhythmic tension and dark melancholy will mark the concert's striking finale.

Marko Ševarlić: Accordion as a Modern Concert Instrument

Marko Ševarlić began playing the accordion at the age of eight in Čačak, Serbia. His training took him to Serbia, Spain, Würzburg, Munich, and Paris. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has won significant international competitions, including those in Arrasate, Pula, Castelfidardo, and Klingenthal. Concert tours have taken him across Europe as well as to Armenia, Russia, Canada, China, Israel, and Japan.

Ševarlić regularly collaborates with composers on new repertoire and has premiered numerous works. Since 2022, he has been a professor at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco Musikene in San Sebastián and also teaches accordion at the University of Music in Nuremberg.

The Zentaur Quartet in Chamber Music Dialogue

Ronja Sophie Putz and Marc Kaufmann on violins, Dragana Gajić on viola, and Caio de Azevedo on cello form an ensemble with Ševarlić, where precise synchronization and expressive stage performance come together. The lineup is complemented by Jurgis Buinevičius on double bass.

The arrangements provide the accordion with a new orchestral perspective: Breath, articulation, and dynamic waves enter into direct dialogue with the warm string sound. Bach's baroque lines, Genin's modern sound landscapes, Hartmann's concentrated tonal language, and Piazzolla's tango rhythms each unfold their own character.

Live Atmosphere at the Karl Amadeus Hartmann Society

The intimate concert atmosphere allows closeness to every musical gesture. In the quiet passages, the space feels transparent and tense, while the rhythmic impulses from Piazzolla set the body of sound in motion. The audience experiences chamber music with high precision, contrasting colors, and immediate emotional impact.

Conclusion: An Evening Concert for Curious Ears

The concert of the Zentaur Quartet and Marko Ševarlić promises a concentrated journey through baroque, new music, musical modernity, and tango nuevo. Anyone wishing to experience accordion and string quartet in an unusual connection will find a multifaceted concert experience in Munich on November 7, 2026, with international format.
