Jakob Manz & Johanna Summer: Jazz as a Vibrant Dialogue

On November 25, 2026, two outstanding young voices of German jazz will meet at the bosco Bürger- und Kulturhaus Gauting: pianist Johanna Summer and saxophonist Jakob Manz. Their duo combines technical virtuosity with creative freedom and an extraordinary awareness of the moment.

When two sound languages speak to each other

Johanna Summer and Jakob Manz understand jazz as a vocabulary for new, personal stories. Their interplay thrives on intense listening, spontaneous reacting, and boldly opening musical spaces. Each note can take a new direction, each pause can create tension.

Between Jazz, Pop, Classical, and Improvisation

Both musicians are deeply rooted in the jazz idiom and expand it with influences from pop, classical, composition, and free improvisation. On their second joint album Cameo, released by ACT Music, they condense this diversity into the smallest possible formation: piano and saxophone.

Virtuosity with Human Closeness

The stage performance of the duo does not rely on maximum volume but on precision, dynamics, and mutual attention. Summer's pianist playing combines impressionistic sound colors with spontaneous invention. Manz leads his saxophone with clear articulation, energetic line direction, and a pronounced sense of melodic development.

An Evening of Surprises

At the bosco, a focused live atmosphere is created, in which musical synchronization and improvisational freedom become immediately tangible. The audience experiences how a short motif evolves into a wide tension arc and how two independent characters repeatedly find a common sound form.

Conclusion: Jazz That Emerges in the Moment

Jakob Manz and Johanna Summer promise an intense concert experience between sensitive sound poetry, rhythmic energy, and surprising twists. Anyone wishing to experience modern German jazz in its most open and immediate form should not miss this evening at bosco Gauting.
