Gregorian Sounds for the Evening in the Munich Residence

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the Old Court Chapel of the Munich Residence opens its historic space for an extraordinary concert experience: The men's ensemble of the Augsburg Cathedral Singers will present an evening concert featuring Gregorian chant as part of the Residence Week. It starts at 7 PM.

Floating Choral Sound Meets Court Architecture

The monophonic melodies of Gregorian chant have a unique effect in the Old Court Chapel. Between historic spatial art and a subdued evening atmosphere, a concentrated live ambiance is created where every note gains space. The archaic sound of the chants transports listeners from everyday life into a musical world beyond time and noise.

Men's Ensemble of the Augsburg Cathedral Singers

On stage is the men's ensemble of the Augsburg Cathedral Singers. The singers belong to the renowned Augsburg boys' choir and dedicate themselves to a repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant to Renaissance and Baroque, as well as other vocal traditions. Musical direction is taken by Stefan Steinemann, choirmaster at the Augsburg Cathedral, who will also be playing the organ.

Precise Vocal Music with Spiritual Depth

Gregorian chant thrives on clear lines, careful intonation, and precise synchronization of the voices. In the Old Court Chapel, this reduced orchestration combines with the natural acoustics of the historic hall. The conducting and organ accompaniment provide subtle impulses without overshadowing the meditative character of the music.

Compact Concert to Conclude the Day

The concert lasts about 45 minutes and takes place without an intermission. This follows the idea of a concentrated musical conclusion: an intense concert experience for all seeking tranquility, sacred sound colors, and an impressive stage performance in a historic setting after a day of work.

Conclusion: Experience Gregorian Chant Live in the Residence

The evening concert with Gregorian chant promises a quiet, intense encounter with centuries-old vocal music. Experience the men's ensemble of the Augsburg Cathedral Singers and Stefan Steinemann live in the Old Court Chapel of the Munich Residence and secure your place for Residence Week 2026.
