Dragonflies – Winged Jewels: A fascinating artistic experience of nature

Shimmering colors, amazing flying skills, and an extraordinary life cycle make dragonflies some of the most impressive insects in our local nature. The exhibition by BUND Naturschutz at the Gilching Town Hall invites you to discover these winged jewels up close and understand their significance for species-rich habitats.

Between Water World and Airspace

Dragonflies are wanderers between two worlds. Their life begins in water, where the larvae hunt as skilled predators. Only later do they transform into flying hunters, gliding through the air with high precision. The exhibition vividly illustrates this fascinating developmental process, combining natural science information with aesthetic experience.

Colors, Shapes, and Acrobatic Flying Skills

The focus here is not on painting or sculpture, but on the creative power of nature itself: metallically shimmering bodies, transparent wings, delicate joints, and complex movement patterns. The exhibition offers a concentrated view of body structure, lifestyle, and the dazzling diversity of various dragonfly families.

Cultural Education and Species Conservation

As an educational offering from BUND Naturschutz, the exhibition connects scientific expertise with cultural education. Topics like habitats, reproduction, biodiversity, and endangerment illustrate how closely aesthetic fascination and ecological protection are intertwined. The exhibition encourages a more conscious perception of waters, wetland biotopes, and near-natural landscapes.

Insights into a Threatened Diversity

The presentation highlights the conditions that dragonflies need to survive. Clean waters, structurally rich banks, and suitable development areas form the basis for their diversity. Thus, the exhibition becomes not only an informative nature experience but also an impulse for responsible action in everyday life.

Conclusion: Seeing Nature with New Eyes

Visitors can expect an educational and sensually stimulating artistic experience between nature observation, species knowledge, and environmental education. Those who wish to immediately understand the aesthetics of shimmering wings, the precision of dragonfly flight, and the significance of intact habitats should definitely experience the exhibition live at the Gilching Town Hall.
