Fake Noise, True Image: When Machines Become Sound Sculptures
The exhibition Fake Noise, True Image – Synergies in Art transforms the Pasinger Fabrik into a fairground of perception. From October 9, 2026, to March 14, 2027, visitors encounter electromechanical sound artworks, sculptures, photographs, prints, cardboard comics, and parts of stage sets.
Sound, Movement, and Surprising Materials
At the center are the peculiar music machines of the Munich artist duo Portmanteau, consisting of Gerald Greulix Schrank and Christian Taison Heiß. The objects made from old, found, or recycled materials combine installation, kinetic sculpture, and sound art. Sittichquirl, Alpinium, Strippenzieher, and Singvase respond to the actions of the audience, making the viewing of the works an immediately experiential artistic encounter.
An Interactive Exhibition
Here, art is not kept at a distance. A coin toss sets mechanical processes in motion: chairs begin to dance, a flock of sheep sounds, a singing vase develops its own performance, and the oaf comments on the events in a quirky way. The atmosphere of the exhibition thrives on movement, noise, humor, and the wonder of things that leave behind their original function.
Five Artistic Positions on Reality and Perception
In addition to Portmanteau, Martin Dessecker, Willi Haas, Leonhard Scheck, and Peter Mayr are involved. Their works revolve around the question of how reality is formed and how easily familiar certainties can shift. Dessecker's transparencies and visual aids interweave reflection and reality. Willi Haas examines ambiguous image layers in photographs, while astrophysicist Leonhard Scheck reorders space and time in unusual photographic cuts. Peter Mayr works with drawing, painting, printing, and installation, presenting the image as an impression, phantom, and assertion.
Historical Site, New Sound Machine
The exhibition also takes into account the history of its location. Where the Pasinger Fabrik now unites culture, theater, music, and visual arts, the headquarters of the Ritterwerke stood from 1912 to 1982. Portmanteau develops a sound machine specifically for this site made of hand-cranked bread-slicing machines. Thus, industrial history merges with contemporary art and a playful form of cultural education.
Guided Tours and Supporting Program
On many days, the artists themselves are on site, guiding through the spaces and engaging with parts of the works. Tours take place on Tuesdays at 6 PM. Additionally, music performances, concerts, and workshops enhance the exhibition program. The exhibition targets playful children from 0 to 99 years old and offers children, teenagers, and adults an accessible entry to sound art and installation.
Conclusion: A Sensual Art Experience for Curious Visitors
Fake Noise, True Image combines aesthetic experience, technical tinkering, and art historical reflection into an unusual exhibition in Munich. Those who want to experience sound machines, kinetic sculptures, photography, and humorous perception art live will discover an exhibition space full of movement, sounds, and surprising perspectives in the Pasinger Fabrik.
