The Hedgehog – Our Spiky Knight: Nature Knowledge at the Gilching Town Hall

Spiky, nocturnal, and familiar to many people from their own gardens: The exhibition The Hedgehog – Our Spiky Knight invites visitors at the Gilching Town Hall for a vivid encounter with a local wildlife species. The roll-up exhibition by BUND Naturschutz combines natural scientific information, environmental education, and specific impulses for hedgehog protection.

Insights into the Annual Cycle of the Hedgehog

The exhibition accompanies the hedgehog through the seasons – from hibernation to foraging for food to raising young. Visitors will learn how the hedgehog lives, what it feeds on, and how to identify a needy animal. Visual materials and clearly prepared texts make the exploration accessible for families, children, and adult nature enthusiasts.

Recognizing Dangers in Residential Areas

The focus is on the challenges the hedgehog faces in human environments. A diminishing habitat, sealed areas, and a lack of retreat spaces complicate foraging for food and protection from dangers. The exhibition opens perspectives on ecological connections right in front of one's own doorstep.

Hedgehog Protection Begins in Your Own Garden

Illustrative information shows how nature-friendly gardens can become important habitats. Wild corners, safe passages, and a conscious approach to feeding and garden care enhance biodiversity. Thus, the exhibition connects cultural education with practical environmental education and conveys knowledge that continues to resonate in everyday life.

An Exhibition for Young and Old Nature Lovers

The calm exhibition atmosphere in the town hall foyer facilitates focused exploration. Colors, photographs, graphic forms, and informative texts create a visual installation that conveys natural scientific content in an easily understandable way. The artistic experience here does not lie in classical painting or sculpture but in the aesthetic experience of a more conscious perception of local nature.

Conclusion: Rediscovering the Spiky Neighbors

The hedgehog – our spiky knight awaits visitors with well-founded knowledge about its way of life, threats, and protection possibilities. The free exhibition is particularly suitable for families, children, school classes, and anyone who wants to make their garden more hedgehog-friendly. Those who wish to better understand nature at their doorstep and take concrete action ideas with them should definitely visit this educational art experience live at the Gilching Town Hall.
