The Hedgehog – Our Spiny Knight: An Exhibition about Native Wildlife

In the foyer of the Gilching Town Hall, the roll-up exhibition The Hedgehog – Our Spiny Knight is dedicated to one of the most well-known native wild animals. The exhibition by the BUND Naturschutz vividly conveys how hedgehogs live, what food they need, and why their habitat in residential areas is increasingly under pressure.

Insights into the Life of a Nocturnal Garden Resident

The exhibition takes visitors through the annual cycle of the hedgehog – from hibernation to foraging for food to raising young. Visitors will learn when a hedgehog actually needs help and what natural behaviors are visible during the examination of the exhibition. Large-format roll-ups combine natural history information with easily accessible visual design.

Recognizing Hazards in Residential Areas

The focus is on the dangers that hedgehogs encounter in everyday life. Less suitable habitats, sealed surfaces, and other influences from the human environment make it difficult for the spiny animal to search for food and retreat. The exhibition invites guests to view their own garden and living environment from a new perspective.

Practical Hedgehog Protection in Your Own Garden

The natural history presentation provides concrete suggestions for increasing biodiversity: nature-friendly garden areas, safe retreats, and a conscious approach to local wildlife strengthen the hedgehog's habitat. Thus, the exhibition connects cultural education with environmental education and makes ecological connections in everyday life tangible.

A Free Artistic Experience for Big and Small Nature Lovers

The exhibition is aimed at families, children, school classes, and all nature enthusiasts. The calm exhibition atmosphere in the town hall foyer allows for concentrated viewing and an aesthetic experience, where not classical painting, but natural history communication, image material, and comprehensible information are at the center.

Conclusion

The Hedgehog – Our Spiny Knight offers an informative and moving look at a quiet neighbor at our doorstep. Those who want to learn more about the way of life, threats, and protection options will experience a compact exhibition in Gilching with practical benefits for everyday life. The visit is particularly worthwhile for families and anyone wanting to actively support hedgehog protection.
