Winter Reading Time with Otto at the Gilching Community Library
A picture book, bright children's eyes, and creative hands: In Reading & Crafting, children aged four and up will experience a festive journey to Finland on December 2, 2026. The story being read is OTTO Sets Off – Christmas in Finland by Madlen Ottenschläger, with illustrations by Stefanie Reich. Afterwards, based on the story, they will create their own craft work.
With Otto through Snowy Winter Worlds
The story leads into a magical Finland full of snow, northern lights, and Christmas discoveries. Otto, the special camper van, travels with his holiday family through the far north. Children encounter reindeer, huskies, and the winter culture of Finland. The lovingly designed images invite wonder and create a calm, warm atmosphere for shared listening.
Reading Strengthens Language and Imagination
Listening together supports language development, expands vocabulary, and stimulates imagination. The age-appropriate story combines adventure, knowledge about other countries, and festive anticipation. Thus, a reading hour becomes a child-friendly learning experience filled with fun and quality time for families.
Becoming Creative After the Story
After the reading, children transition from listening to creating. In the accompanying crafting activity, they can explore colors, shapes, and materials, develop their own ideas, and proudly take their results home. Creative work promotes fine motor skills, concentration, and self-confidence. Children's laughter, curiosity, and a cozy sense of community make the afternoon a special family experience.
Free Admission and No Pre-registration Required
The event is aimed at children aged four and up. Admission is free, and no pre-registration is required. The Gilching Community Library thus provides an uncomplicated, safe, and family-friendly access to books, stories, and creative education.

Reading & Crafting combines a winter picture book journey with imaginative creation. Families will enjoy a relaxed break at the Gilching Community Library, discover Finland through children's literature, and take home a self-made keepsake. Mark the date and accompany Otto on his Christmas journey.
