Super BOOKS 7: When the book becomes an independent work of art

On Friday, October 30, 2026, Super BOOKS 7 transforms the Haus der Kunst in Munich into a vibrant meeting point of the international artists' book scene. From 4 PM to 10 PM, artists, designers, publishers, and institutions will come together with free admission. The focus is on a publication culture that understands the book not as a finished object, but as an open medium for image, language, materiality, and societal exchange.

A fair for new forms of language and book art

For the seventh time, Super BOOKS presents current artists' books and independent publications. Around 70 local, national, and international exhibitors showcase works that question the boundaries of the classic book format. Between editions, artists' books, zines, and experimental prints, a panorama of contemporary book design emerges, where narrative concepts are as important as paper, typography, rhythm, and tactility.

The literary quality of this format lies in direct exchange: Visitors discover new releases, antiquarian publications, and independent publishing projects directly at the tables of the producers. Super BOOKS makes visible how closely writing, visual arts, design, and cultural mediation are interconnected.

Open Haus, workshops, and encounters

The seventh edition takes place on Friday in parallel with Open Haus of the Haus der Kunst. The program combines book presentations with workshops, performances, lectures, and sound events from Radio 80000. A special role is played by the barrier-free self-publishing workshop of pirat*innenpresse with sign language support. Children and teenagers develop their own publications together with artists and learn how to create handmade booklets and books from ideas, images, and texts.

Further program points lead to the reading corner of the South Gallery, to the Radio Room, and to a BONUS zine project by Public Possession. The book presentation Encounters by Salta Art focuses on bilingual publications that have emerged from conversations between female artists and cultural creators. The book launch with Andrea Lissoni is scheduled for 7 PM.

An intimate atmosphere for curious readers

The reading atmosphere of Super BOOKS is created less by a classic stage situation and more by closeness, movement, and discovery. Amid book tables, stacks of paper, printed materials, and conversations, the literary experience becomes physically tangible. Language meets visual art, voice meets printed word, and the individual publication engages in a multifaceted cultural discourse.

Those interested in independent publishing, contemporary literature, book design, or experimental narratives will find numerous connections at Super BOOKS 7. The event shows how publications can open societal perspectives and function as independent forms of language art.

Conclusion: An evening for books that transcend boundaries

Super BOOKS 7 invites you to see, read, and understand books in a new way. The direct contact with artists, designers, and publishers makes the visit a special author encounter with the present of independent publishing culture. Anyone wishing to experience literature as material, visual space, and form of thought should discover this free evening at the Haus der Kunst live.
