A Fireworks of Acrobatics: CIRCUS at the GOP Varieté Theatre Munich
When the curtain rises on October 27, 2026, at the GOP Varieté Theatre Munich, a journey into the poetic world of the circus begins. The show CIRCUS – Festival of Artists combines classical circus tradition with modern varieté dramaturgy, breathtaking body art, and narrative stage poetry.
Between Ring, Magic, and Masterful Body Control
The production pays homage to the glittering, grand gestures, and physical excellence of the circus world. Acrobatics, dance, clowning, and innovative artistic elements merge into a stage experience that unfolds excitement and wonder in ever-new images.
The program features trapeze artistry, aerial silks, balance, unicycling, diabolo juggling, Chinese pole, handstand acrobatics, and fast-paced roller-skating performances. Each act thrives on precise technique, high concentration, and a stage presence that makes even the most challenging movements appear easy and natural.
Ukrainian Acrobatics Meets Modern GOP Aesthetics
For the production, GOP collaborates with the Circus Theatre Bingo from Kyiv. The direction by Igor Protsenko and Irina German brings the individual acts together into a varied tension arc. The stage design by Sebastian Drozdz, the lighting design by Andi Hönig and Leon Rivero Budde, as well as the production management by Natalia Ulianenko give the show its characteristic visual framework.
The dramaturgy does not rely solely on spectacular tricks. Between strength, elegance, and poetic movement, a narrative evening emerges that translates the tradition of the circus into a contemporary varieté language. The theater's acoustics, lighting moods, and dynamic choreography converge into an atmosphere where each performance acts like its own little moment of tension.
An Evening Full of Thrills and Visual Poetry
Especially impressive are the duo and ensemble scenes: handstand acrobatics transform strength into apparent weightlessness, roller-skating acrobatics provide dynamic speed, and at the aerial silks, daring, grace, and dance precision come together. In addition, clownish moments lend lightness and immediate proximity to the audience to the high tension.
The approximately two-hour show, including an intermission, is aimed at anyone who wishes to experience great stage art, acrobatics, and live entertainment in a special theater atmosphere. The GOP combines intimate closeness to the audience with the grand images of a modern ring.
