Disney The Hunchback of Notre Dame: A moving musical at the German Theatre

On November 5, 2026, the German Theatre Munich will transform into the legendary Paris of Victor Hugo. Disney The Hunchback of Notre Dame tells the touching story of the bell ringer Quasimodo, who lives high above the rooftops of the city and longs for closeness, freedom, and human recognition. The German-language new staging combines great musical moments with a dramatic narrative about exclusion, humanity, and inclusion.

A story between cathedral and longing

At the center of the plot is Quasimodo, who grows up in the bell tower of Notre-Dame and knows the world only from a distance. When the dancer Esmeralda enters his life, the rigid order of Parisian society begins to wobble. Between religious power claims, social prejudices, and unfulfilled love unfolds a musical of great emotional power.

Music, light, and spectacular stage designs

The production relies on haunting songs, overwhelming images, and a powerful stage language. The sounds of bells, dramatic lighting moods, and the architecture of the cathedral create a theater atmosphere where sacred majesty and human vulnerability meet. The set design makes the bell tower a symbol for Quasimodo's captivity and at the same time for his insatiable longing for freedom.

Disney musical with great stage art

The production from the renowned Budapest operetta theatre brings Disney's classic as a new German-language stage version on tour. Following the successful musical adaptation of the animated film, a staging is created that combines acting, choreography, and orchestral fullness into an impressive stage experience. The dramaturgy leads from the fairytale magic of the Parisian rooftops into the tragic conflicts of a society that decides on belonging and exclusion.
