Disney The Hunchback of Notre Dame opens the doors to a moving stage epic

On October 7, 2026, the curtain rises at the Deutsches Theater Munich for the preview of Disney The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The musical combines great music, monumental imagery, and a touching story about outsider status, love, justice, and humanity.

A story between cathedral and longing

At the center is Quasimodo, who grows up hidden high above the rooftops of Paris and longs for closeness and recognition. At the Festival of Fools, he ventures among the people and meets Esmeralda, whose courage and compassion change his life. The plot is based on Victor Hugo's world-famous novel and unfolds its emotional power in a tension-filled dramaturgy.

Musical theater with great sound splendor

The music by Alan Menken and the lyrics by Stephen Schwartz combine powerful choral arrangements, tender ballads, and captivating musical numbers. A live orchestration carries the production through moments full of drama, hope, and inner turmoil. The acoustics of the theater hall allow the musical contrasts to take immediate effect.

Gothic architecture as set design

An imposing cathedral backdrop, gigantic bells, and magnificent costumes depict 15th-century Paris. More than 70 performers create a theatrical experience in which lighting mood, choreography, and acting merge into a colorful overall picture. The direction focuses on monumental tableaux as well as intimate moments where the characters come very close to the audience.
