Goethe's Faust between the Drive for Knowledge and Dark Temptation
On November 11, 2026, the State Theater Schwaben will perform Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Faust. A Tragedy at the Bürgerhaus Unterschleißheim. Sarah Kohrs, who has been the artistic director of the State Theater Schwaben since 2024, directs and brings one of the most impactful works of German theatrical literature to the stage.
A Person on the Edge of Knowledge
At the center of the production is Dr. Heinrich Faust, a scientist and doctor whose hunger for knowledge knows no bounds. Knowledge, success, and social recognition lose their luster as soon as they can no longer silence existential doubt. From this inner abyss, Faust's fateful connection with Mephisto grows.
The Hellish Trip of Mephisto
With Mephisto begins a journey through temptation, desire, and moral boundary experiences. The world-famous drama of humanity and society combines philosophical questions with great stage effectiveness: on one side stands the restless researcher, on the other the allure of a life without limits. The dramaturgy leads directly into Faust's feverish quest for happiness, meaning, and fulfillment.
Margaret and the Struggle for the Heart
In Margaret, Faust encounters a young woman who shakes his worldview. Her love opens a seemingly bright space, yet the relationship comes under the pressure of power, desire, and guilt. From the great drama of knowledge grows a haunting tragedy about the heart and soul of humanity.
Theater Atmosphere and Acting Art
The production combines Goethe's linguistic power with the means of contemporary stage art. Direction, acting, lighting, and set design condense Faust's inner turmoil into a sensually experienceable stage event. Between scientific study room, cosmic temptation, and human tragedy, a theater atmosphere emerges where the great questions of the play become immediately tangible.
A Classic with Contemporary Energy
Goethe's drama remains alive because it shows humanity in its insatiable striving. Faust questions the price of knowledge, responsibility, and the moment when freedom turns into ruthlessness. The performance of the State Theater Schwaben invites you to experience this classic not as a distant educational monument but as a contemporary, passionate, and contradictory stage action.
Conclusion: An Intense Theater Evening in Unterschleißheim
The audience can expect a linguistically powerful play about ambition, seduction, love, and guilt. Faust. A Tragedy combines philosophical depth with dramatic tension and makes Goethe's masterpiece an immediate stage experience. Those who appreciate great acting and lasting impactful theater evenings will experience a classic of poignant contemporary relevance at the Bürgerhaus Unterschleißheim.
