ITALY WITH LOVE: Shakespeare meets Italian joie de vivre
On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the Drehleier Theater in Munich will transform into the Osteria Azzurro. ITALY WITH LOVE combines a modern Romeo-and-Juliet story with Italian hits and serves up a musical theater evening full of charm, improvisation, and cheeky comedy.
When Shakespeare meets Italo-hits
The center of the production features two actors who are supposed to host a Shakespeare evening in the Ristorante or Osteria Azzurro. At the same time, the son of the house wants to present Italian pop songs with his live band. From this misunderstanding, a fast-paced stage narrative develops, where classic love dramaturgy integrates with popular music.
A musical journey through four decades
The dramaturgy draws from well-known melodies from Azzurro to Tornero and from the repertoire of Adriano Celentano, Al Bano and Romina Power, Gianna Nannini, Zucchero, and Eros Ramazzotti. The songs propel the plot, drive the comedy, and give the modern Romeo-and-Juliet variation its unmistakable Italian sound.
Comedy with passion and stage energy
Director and author Michael Tasche relies on the friction between serious acting, spontaneous improvisation, and the immediate energy of a live band. When the characters attempt to reconcile Shakespeare and Italo-pop, a stage experience emerges that blends musical comedy, acting, and concert evening together. The theater atmosphere thrives on musical playfulness, comedic timing, and the joy of the impossible.
An evening for Italy fans and theater lovers
ITALY WITH LOVE is aimed at everyone who appreciates great emotions, Italian chart-toppers, and a light, audience-friendly production. The ensemble combines theater, music, and humor into an evening that places familiar Shakespeare motifs into a Mediterranean setting and whisks the audience away from everyday life with joie de vivre.
Conclusion: Love, music, and great stage enjoyment
Visitors to the Drehleier Theater can expect a colorful musical fun with live music, comedic entanglements, and an unusual Romeo-and-Juliet adaptation. Those who want to experience Italian flair, Italo-hits, and entertaining stage art live will find in ITALY WITH LOVE an evening full of heart, humor, and musical surprises.
