SUSI OR SO: A Musical Empress Conquers the Drehleier

When a small cover band suddenly has to assert itself as an imperial ensemble, a highly unusual theater evening begins at the Munich Drehleier. SUSI OR SO - EMPRESS OF AUSTRIA combines turbulent comedy, Austrian history, and the great hits of Austro-Pop into a musical stage delight.

A Fateful Mix-Up

Actually, the story of Sissi was supposed to be on the program at the theater. But a scheduling mix-up throws everything into chaos: A German cover band is waiting for their performance for a lucrative hotel job in Austria, while the audience has long been waiting for the Empress. When a Bosnian cleaning lady insists on experiencing her beloved Sissi story, the planned music evening is suddenly transformed into an improvised imperial production.

Austro-Pop Meets Habsburg Mythology

The drama strikes a charming bridge between romantic empress legend and musical present. Songs by Reinhard Fendrich, EAV, STS, Falco, and other Austro-Pop stars drive the plot forward. New situations, pointed dialogues, and surprising character sketches arise from familiar melodies.

Comedic Stage Experience with Live Music

The ensemble around the successful team of Italia con Amore relies on rapid role changes, quirky humor, and strong singing. Michael Tasche's production combines acting art, musical precision, and a deliberately winking perspective on the Sissi myth. The stage design becomes a playing field for mix-ups, imperial fantasy, and the clash between hotel job and sovereign territory.

An Evening Between Operetta Glamour and Pop Rebellion

The theater atmosphere thrives on contrast: Here, courtly decor meets catchy pop refrains, historical poses meet modern stage comedy. Costumes, lighting mood, and acoustics support a performance that does not display its Austrian sound world in a museum-like manner but revitalizes it with tempo and playfulness. The two-hour show unfolds its effect as a musical comedy with high entertainment value.

Conclusion: Experience Sissi Differently

SUSI OR SO - EMPRESS OF AUSTRIA awaits the audience as a humorous mix of musical, theater comedy, and Austro-Pop concert. Anyone who is in the mood for an unusual production, pointed acting, and well-known Austrian hits will experience an evening full of musical surprises at the Drehleier.
