On November 17, 2026, the Youth Cultural House Gleis 1 in Unterschleißheim will transform into a colorful word market. The Word Merchant and the Stolen Words tells musically, humorously, and with lots of movement about the power of language and the importance of good coexistence.
A market stall full of language
The lively market woman offers all kinds of words at her colorful stall: sweet words, polite words, foreign words, swear words, and terms that provide comfort. But those very words that are essential for peaceful coexistence have been stolen. The merchant cannot pronounce, show, or sell them.
Dramaturgy with music and participative moments
The production combines acting, music, and a direct address to the young audience. The children experience how words can open doors, hurt, or heal. Between humorous play scenes and catchy songs, a lively stage experience emerges that connects language awareness and empathy.

The play by Claude Theil premiered in France in 1999 under the title La marchande de mots and came to Germany in 2005 in the translation by Thomas Lange. The Nimmerland theater production has developed it into a play for grades one to four. The production is supported by DUDEN and recommended by the Bavarian School Commission.
