Potsdam Health Department | Appointment & Health Pass

The Potsdam Health Department is the central point of contact for the Public Health Service of the state capital and is located on the campus of the Ernst von Bergmann Clinic in Building P at Berliner Straße 150a. This is not about events, but about protection, advice, and official services that are important for many people in everyday life: infection protection, hygiene monitoring, vaccinations, assessments, school entry examinations, HIV and STI counseling, as well as infection protection instruction according to § 43 IfSG. That is why many users search for terms like appointment, contact, opening hours, health pass, public health officer, and school entry examination. The official site recommends contacting them by phone in advance and making an appointment depending on the concern to keep waiting times as short as possible. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

Appointment, Contact, and Opening Hours at the Potsdam Health Department

Those visiting the Potsdam Health Department should distinguish between general administrative topics and the fixed consultation hours of individual specialist areas. The official site describes the Public Health Service as a specialist area with several fields of responsibility, including infection protection, hygiene monitoring, public health assessments, environmental medicine, drinking water monitoring, health reporting, and advising citizens. At the same time, it explicitly states that one should contact them by phone in advance and make an appointment if necessary. This is important for practice because the authority does not operate like a classic public service office with an open-door model but offers many services in a targeted and time-bound manner. This is particularly evident with vaccinations: An open vaccination consultation takes place every Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on the 2nd floor of Building P. Fixed consultation hours have also been published for STI and HIV counseling, namely Tuesdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Thursdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. This mix of appointment service and fixed consultation hours explains why the search intent behind the keyword opening hours is so frequent. Anyone needing a specific service should always check whether it is tied to a fixed day or whether prior registration by phone or email is expected. For user-friendliness, the Health Department is clearly service-oriented but organized in a department-oriented manner. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

The location is also important for visitors because the Health Department in Potsdam appears multiple times under different names in official texts. The central address is Berliner Straße 150a, Building P, 14467 Potsdam. In an older press release, the address was still listed as Berliner Straße 150, Building P; the current representation uses Berliner Straße 150a and refers to Building P on the grounds of the Ernst von Bergmann Clinic. In practice, this means that anyone with an appointment should pay attention to the exact building designation and not just rely on the street address. The official press communication also mentions room P225a for consultations in the area of HIV and STI, which shows that the facility is clearly structured internally. Those searching for contact from the keyword mix will also find service-related phone numbers for individual offers, such as for health pass counseling or STI counseling. Since no general visitor parking spaces or a separate parking regulation are mentioned on the pages evaluated here, it is advisable to check the specific route and possible detours on the clinic grounds before visiting. This type of practical detail question is usually behind search queries related to contact and opening hours. Health Pass and Infection Protection Instruction According to § 43 IfSG

A particularly in-demand topic is the health pass, i.e., the infection protection instruction according to § 43 IfSG. The official Potsdam site makes a clear distinction here: Since October 2024, the instruction will take place exclusively online. The Health Department has commissioned the Technology Center Glehn GmbH for the technical implementation; booking is done for a fee via the online procedure, and the certificate can be downloaded or sent by email after completion. The content of the instruction is aimed at people working in kitchens or other facilities with communal catering or commercially producing, handling, or distributing food and coming into contact with food. The certificate must not be older than three months before the first employment. For many users, it is also relevant that the instruction takes about 45 minutes and costs 33.00 euros. These are hard facts that play a significant role in search queries related to health pass, red card, and infection protection, as they directly determine effort, time requirements, and costs. The official site also mentions that payment options will be displayed during the appointment booking. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/gesundheitspass))

It is also important to distinguish between the regular online procedure and exceptions. For infection protection instructions in the context of a student internship, voluntary social year (FSJ), ecological voluntary year (FÖJ), or federal voluntary service, different rules apply: This instruction is free for the mentioned groups, provided they reside in Potsdam. In this case, one should contact the Health Department by email four weeks before the start of the internship or activity; after receiving the email, the office will get in touch. For those searching for the term health pass combined with Potsdam-Mittelmark, this is also important because the city office and the district administration have different responsibilities. The core of the service remains the same: people in the food sector receive a legally mandated infection protection instruction that secures their entry into the profession. Therefore, anyone searching for red card, health pass, or infection protection today finds themselves in a digital process in Potsdam with clear deadlines, fees, and exceptions. School Entry Examination, School Health, and Child and Youth Services

The school entry examination is one of the core tasks of the Potsdam Health Department and is one of the most important search topics for many families. The Child and Youth Medical Health Service cares for Potsdam children and adolescents from 0 to 18 years and advises parents, guardians, and care facilities. Its tasks include routine examinations in daycare centers, school entry examinations to determine health school readiness, school examinations in the 6th grade, school exit examinations for adolescents, and school entry examinations for newcomers, i.e., newly arrived children and adolescents before starting school in Germany. This is complemented by vaccination counseling, vaccinations for children and adolescents, and work in child protection in collaboration with the youth welfare office. These tasks explain why search queries such as school entry examination, public health officer, and reporting are so frequent in connection with the Health Department. For parents, it is particularly relevant that the authority not only examines but also advises and accompanies. The work of the service is therefore preventive and aims to identify health risks early before they lead to larger problems in school life or development. The office does not see the school entry examination as an isolated mandatory appointment but as part of ongoing child and youth medical support. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

Beyond the school entry examination, the official description shows how broadly the Public Health Service in Potsdam is structured. The specialist area works with a multi-professional team that also considers preventive offers, vaccinations, and child protection. This is practical for parents because the Health Department thus forms an interface between medical assessment, developmental discussions, and municipal responsibility. Especially for newcomers, the service is particularly important because newly arrived children and adolescents receive a school medical examination and counseling before starting school in Germany. This makes the service relevant for families with relocation, flight, or migration experience. Therefore, those searching for school medical examination, school readiness, or school examination are actually looking for an administrative process that should secure entry into the school system. In Potsdam, the Child and Youth Medical Health Service is responsible for this, not a general school administration. This separation explains why the Health Department is so closely linked to education and family counseling in search behavior. The site also explicitly states that the service advises parents and facilities and thus not only controls but also supports. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

HIV Test, STI Counseling, and Sexual Health in Potsdam

One of the most visible service areas of the Potsdam Health Department is counseling on sexual health. The official announcement from 2023 states that counseling and testing for HIV and sexually transmitted infections are being offered again, and that sex workers can also receive counseling. To avoid a full waiting room, one should make an appointment in advance by phone or email; the appointment can also be made anonymously with an alias. This makes the service more accessible for many people because discretion and planable appointments are explicitly considered. The official announcement mentioned that counseling times are on Tuesdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, and Thursdays from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The location is the second floor of Building P, room P225a. Particularly useful for the search is that the official description of the counseling does not describe a pure HIV center but explicitly includes STI topics as well. This means that the keywords HIV test, reporting, contact, and infection protection fit together very well because it is a real, medically preventive service with public health relevance. The offer aims not only at diagnosis but also at counseling, prevention, and information. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

The official site for the Public Health Service further specifies the range: It states that the team is responsible for assessments, vaccination counseling, the health pass, counseling on sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS, as well as prevention events. Anonymous counseling and testing for HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and hepatitis are mentioned. This is an important point for content analysis because search queries related to HIV tests often actually seek a broader STI offer and not just a single test. The service sees itself as a confidential point of contact that does not stigmatize those affected but brings counseling and testing together. It is also relevant for users that not every inquiry requires an open consultation hour; depending on the concern, a prior appointment may also be sensible. Therefore, anyone searching for HIV test, STI counseling, or sexual health in Potsdam finds a combined counseling service at the Health Department with anonymous contact options and clear times. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

Heilpraktiker Examination, Medical Supervision, and Public Health Assessments

Another thematic focus of search queries is the Heilpraktiker examination. The Public Health Service of the state capital Potsdam names medical supervision and Heilpraktiker examination as its own area of responsibility. This includes monitoring health professions, examining the eligibility for practice outside of academic health professions, reporting obligations for self-employed health professions, monitoring unauthorized healing practices, and controlling the distribution of medicines by businesses selling medicines outside of pharmacies. Additionally, the same area of responsibility includes the mortuary and burial services and the examination and archiving of death certificates. Particularly relevant for searches is the statement that the team conducts the knowledge examination for the issuance of the Heilpraktiker license in the state of Brandenburg. This makes it clear: Those searching for Heilpraktiker, public health officer, or management end up in a highly regulated administrative and examination area, not in a classic counseling center. The authority plays an important control and approval function for the health market and for professional practices with public relevance. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

In the same context are the public health assessments, which are named as a central area of service on the official site. The health service is the point of contact for various medical assessments and evaluations and thus serves as an interface between individual health assessments and administrative decisions. This is relevant, for example, for professional, legal, or administrative questions. Even though the official site does not detail every single case group, the classification is clear: The Health Department examines and evaluates medically where the administration relies on it. For the search intent public health officer, this means that users in Potsdam land at a place with clear responsibilities. At the same time, the official task description shows that the authority goes beyond the classic image of a health department. It also oversees public health from a regulatory perspective, for example, in professions, hygiene, or medicines. Therefore, for keyword planning, Heilpraktiker examination, public health officer, and medical supervision are the three most important terms that hit the same administrative core. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

Infection Protection, Vaccinations, Hygiene, and Practical Tips for Visiting

The term infection protection covers more at the Potsdam Health Department than just the instruction according to § 43 IfSG. The official site mentions a dedicated working group for infection protection and tuberculosis care, whose task is to ensure protection against infections and their further spread in the population. For certain infectious diseases, a legally mandated reporting procedure must be observed. The staff advises on preventive measures, can issue visit and activity bans if necessary, and monitors and advises senior and care facilities and community institutions regarding applicable hygiene standards. In parallel, there is the working group for hygiene monitoring, drinking and bathing water, which advises medical facilities and public institutions, controls drinking water quality, bathing waters, and swimming pools, and also works on health hazards such as rats or cockroaches in public spaces. For users, this means: The Potsdam Health Department is the place to turn not only for personal counseling needs but also for questions of public hygiene and municipal health protection. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

Vaccinations are also part of prevention. The official site mentions an open vaccination consultation every Tuesday from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Health Department on the 2nd floor of Building P. A press release about the vaccination day also confirmed that the Health Department at Berliner Straße 150a was open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM for people in Potsdam, particularly targeting adolescents and their parents. This information shows that vaccination offers in Potsdam can be organized both regularly and on action days. The location is helpful for visitors because the Health Department is located on the campus of the Ernst von Bergmann Clinic and thus lies within the urban supply area. Those planning their visit should always pay attention to the exact building designation Building P and check the respective floor or room for special services. If searching for parking, one should not rely on assumptions, as the evaluated official pages do not mention a dedicated parking area. Instead, the practical recommendation is to check the appointment, service, and access in advance. This is particularly important for time-bound services or those requiring registration. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/oeffentlicher-gesundheitsdienst))

Finally, for keyword interpretation, the question of Potsdam-Mittelmark is important. The facility described here is the Health Department of the state capital Potsdam. The district of Potsdam-Mittelmark is its own administration with its own website, own imprint, and based in Bad Belzig. Therefore, anyone searching for Health Department Potsdam-Mittelmark should consciously distinguish between the city and the district, as responsibilities, phone numbers, and online paths may differ. For search engine and SEO logic, this is a classic case of local ambiguity: users often mean the Health Department that is responsible for their specific address and not just the city or district as a brand. The Potsdam Health Department therefore particularly well addresses search intents like appointment, contact, health pass, school entry examination, infection protection, HIV test, and Heilpraktiker examination. These topics reflect the actual tasks of the office and are clearly documented on the official site. ([potsdam.de](https://www.potsdam.de/de/96-tag-der-offenen-tuer-des-gesundheitsamtes-potsdam))

This office is a disaster. In the middle of a pandemic, they're only open two days a week. The hotline is simply unreachable. They're quick to issue measures, but that's about it. You're left to fend for yourself. They don't respond to emails. It seems to me they only know one way to communicate. Absolutely outrageous!

Unfortunately, I can't give zero stars. I've been waiting for my quarantine order for months. No one answers the phone, and when I do, they always say that some documents are missing or that the paperwork will arrive in a few days. I've been waiting for my order since January, and nobody seems to care.

Why am I giving it one star? Because I have to! No phone calls, no answers to emails, absolutely nothing. A ghost agency. But at least I'm vaccinated and wearing a mask. But woe betide you if your child has a first contact and you want to find out what to do next. Maybe things will finally work halfway decently in the sixth COVID winter...

I received my first hepatitis B vaccination at the mobile vaccination unit and went there again for my second. As advertised, no appointment was necessary and there was no waiting time. Data collection and the subsequent vaccination were quick and problem-free. With a friendly reminder about the third vaccination, I was on my way home in less than 10 minutes. Thanks to the doctor who administered the vaccination; I didn't notice any issues during or after the procedure. Even sleeping on the affected arm was no problem.
