Bayern between rumors and squad planning
FC Bayern sticks with Michael Olise and sharpens the squad in a targeted manner
Real Madrid has been linked with Michael Olise for weeks – even leading to speculation about a possible “mega offer.” At FC Bayern, the public stance is clear: club officials have recently left no doubt that the club wants to keep the attacking player. At the same time, Munich is pushing ahead with squad planning in several areas – with already finalized decisions, contract extensions, and selective market assessments.
Olise rumor: High sums, but clear signals from Munich
Spanish and English media are reporting that Real Madrid could prepare an offer in the region of 150 million euros. However, there are no known concrete, officially confirmed negotiations between the clubs. The fact is: Olise joined Munich from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2024 for around 50 million euros, his contract runs until 2029 – without a release clause. This gives FC Bayern a strong negotiating position in any potential poker game.
Didier Deschamps commented on Olise’s situation in general and with regard to his quality – without anticipating a decision: “He will know very well whether he will stay at FC Bayern Munich or whether he needs a change of scenery. There is no good or bad choice. If I were in Kompany’s or the Bayern president’s position, it would of course be very, very good to have him in the team and to keep him at Bayern. I can imagine that he is also receiving offers from other clubs.”
The club’s top management has also recently sent a clear signal. Uli Hoeneß said in May: “He can keep five eyes on Olise, he won’t get him.” Hoeneß also predicted a generally quieter transfer summer – FC Bayern would “not make big statements.” This tone also fits the message around Olise: instead of fueling sales debates, the club demonstratively sends a message of stability.
Brown as an option on the left: profile, contract, sporting logic
Regardless of Olise, FC Bayern is looking at reinforcements in other positions. One candidate is Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt. The 22-year-old left-back is under contract in Frankfurt until 2030; Eintracht had extended the contract, originally running until 2025, early to June 30, 2030. Brown moved from 1. FC Nürnberg to Frankfurt in 2024 and developed there into a German international – a development that inevitably attracts attention from top clubs.
The fact that Brown could fit Munich’s search profile is indicated not only by the ongoing interest from the club’s environment. Thomas Müller also publicly assessed Brown’s potential: “In terms of qualities and potential, definitely.” At the same time, Müller pointed to the challenge of FC Bayern: “When you move to FC Bayern as a player, you face brutal competition. But he is definitely an interesting player. I think everyone sees that.”
It is also noteworthy that FC Bayern explicitly highlighted Brown in the club’s own opposition profile for the Bundesliga match against Frankfurt as a relevant player – referring to his offensive impulses and recent goal threat. Such internal analyses do not replace a transfer decision, but show that a player is considered in detail as both a problem and solution factor. On the left side, this could be particularly valuable for Munich: a modern full-back who connects build-up play and the final third changes the dynamics and pace of an entire flank – and at the same time relieves the attacking line.
Squad work: finalized decisions, open questions, long-term axes
Away from the big headlines, FC Bayern has already finalized several personnel matters. Daniel Peretz is joining FC Southampton permanently; the club made the permanent transfer official on Friday morning. Sporting director Max Eberl said: “Daniel immediately established himself as number 1 at FC Southampton after his winter move and has found a new sporting home there. We thank him for the time together in Munich: he is a great character and has always contributed in a highly professional manner. We wish him all the best for his future.” According to a Sky report, the transfer fee was around eight million euros – a figure not specified by FC Bayern itself.
The situation with Alexander Nübel, on the other hand, remains in flux: his loan at VfB Stuttgart ends, and he initially returns to Munich. At the same time, despite Nübel’s contract until 2029, Bayern is currently not planning with him. This points to further discussions and possible solutions in the goalkeeper segment, rather than a quick decision.
A decision has also been made in attack: Nicolas Jackson will not be signed permanently after his loan ends. The background is the structure of a purchase obligation, which would have been triggered after 40 starting eleven appearances. Jackson has made 29 appearances this season, 16 of them as a substitute. For FC Bayern, this means: no automatic transition to an expensive permanent transfer. It was also reported that in this case, allegedly 65 million euros would have been due to Chelsea – a sum not officially confirmed, but which explains the financial framework in which such clauses can influence sporting deployment planning and transfer strategy.
At the same time, Munich is securing key building blocks. Dayot Upamecano has extended until 2030; Eberl described him as “another central figure in our team.” Serge Gnabry is also staying and has extended until 2028. Since 2018, Gnabry has made 311 competitive appearances, scored 100 goals, and provided 69 assists – numbers that underline his role as a reliable output player, even if form fluctuates in certain phases. Raphaël Guerreiro, on the other hand, is leaving the club in the summer after his contract expires; he made 89 appearances, scored 12 goals, and provided eight assists in Munich.
Overall picture: No upheaval, but targeted fine-tuning
All in all, there is much to suggest that FC Bayern will be making targeted adjustments this summer rather than broadly rebuilding the squad: Olise is to be kept, Brown is being considered as a realistic option on the left, while the club is making clear cuts with individual professionals and securing important axes for the long term.
The greatest public attention remains on Olise for the time being – also because large sums are being discussed. However, the structural core of Munich’s transfer work is broader: controlled decisions, contract binding of key players, and selective reinforcement where it promises the greatest sporting and strategic impact.
