From the Depths: Spiritual Choral Music Between Darkness and Hope

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, the Choir of the Bavarian Radio invites you to an intense concert evening at the Munich Prinzregententheater. The first choral subscription concert of the 2026/27 season combines sacred music from Eastern Europe with great vocal power, taking the audience into a world between inner contemplation, existential tension, and radiant hope.

A Musical Journey Inward

Under the title From the Depths, works by Arvo Pärt, Alfred Schnittke, and Henryk Górecki will be performed. Their music transcends stylistic, religious, and geographical boundaries, creating an atmosphere in which every choral sound has an immediate impact. Reduced soundscapes, powerful crescendos, and long reverberation spaces make the concert evening an intense experience.

Pärt, Schnittke, and Górecki in Dialogue

Arvo Pärt's De profundis for male choir, tam-tam, tube bells, and organ opens the evening with a concentrated, nearly archaic sound language. Alfred Schnittke's Requiem combines soloists, choir, and instruments into a dramatic musical meditation. Henryk Górecki's Miserere op. 44 then unfolds its profound power in the a cappella choral setting. With Pärt's For Jan van Eyck, the arc closes in a transparent connection of choir and organ.

Precision, Orchestration, and Strong Stage Performance

Peter Dijkstra will conduct the Bavarian Radio Choir together with the Munich Radio Orchestra through a demanding program. Max Hanft will be featured on the organ. The differentiated orchestration, the precise synchronization of voices, and the special acoustics of the Prinzregententheater promise an evening where every breath becomes part of the musical expression.

Concert Introduction Before the Start

The concert introduction begins at 7:00 PM. It offers an expert preparation for the composers, the religious references, and the musical tension fields of the program. The concert itself will start at 8:00 PM and is expected to last until 10:00 PM.

Conclusion: Choral Music as an Immediate Experience

From the Depths is aimed at all who want to not only hear choral music but also physically experience it. Between sacred calm, dark sound intensity, and radiant resolution, a special live atmosphere is created. Those who wish to experience sacred music, contemporary classical, and extraordinary stage moments will find an evening concert at the Prinzregententheater with a lasting impact.
