DES-MIRAR: Colombian Cinematic Worlds Between Peace, Memory and New Perspectives
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, DES-MIRAR invites you to a cinematic journey through Abya Yala at Gasteig HP8. The focus is on Colombia as the guest country – a nation between the Pacific, the Caribbean, and the Amazon basin, whose social reality is made visible through independent and community-based film productions.
Cinema as an Aesthetic Experience and Social Dialogue
DES-MIRAR refers to the pre-colonial existence of the American continent with the term Abya Yala and focuses on voices, perspectives, and viewpoints that are often overlooked in the international cultural scene. The film program combines the examination of works, cultural education, and political reflection.
At the center is the Colombian feature film Jardín de Amapolas from 2012. Directed by Juan Carlos Melo Guevara, this 88-minute film will be shown in its original version with subtitles and offers an intense access to the realities of a country where memory, violence, and the search for peace are closely intertwined.
Film Program on Peace and Memory
Even a decade after the signing of the peace agreement in 2016 between the Colombian state and the former guerrilla group FARC-EP, armed conflict continues. DES-MIRAR makes this tension palpable not through abstract theses but through concrete film images and everyday narratives.
Following the feature film, a short film series featuring documentary works will be presented. This includes Apotnojushi – The House of the Wind by Marbel Vanegas Jusayu, Defendiendo el Territorio, La Sombra del Carbón, and Huellas del viento by Paola Tamayo. The films take us into different social, cultural, and territorial spaces of Colombia and broaden the perspective on indigenous communities, environmental issues, and the defense of developed living spaces.
Audience Dialogues with Filmmakers
The event combines projection and dialogue. After Jardín de Amapolas, producer Alexandra Yepes from Chirimoya Films will speak with the audience. Following the short film series, a further conversation with director Paola Tamayo will take place. The discussions will be held in Spanish and German.
Art Experience in the Projector of Gasteig HP8
The projector at Gasteig HP8 creates a concentrated interior for cinematic perception. Darkness, moving light, voices, and landscape images condense into an exhibition atmosphere of cinema. The aesthetic experience arises from the alternation of quiet contemplation and open dialogue.
DES-MIRAR is aimed at everyone who understands cinema as a space for cultural experience and wants to engage with new perspectives on Latin America. The program opens a differentiated encounter with contemporary Colombian culture, memory culture, and independent cinematic art.
Conclusion: Experience Colombia from New Angles
DES-MIRAR promises an immersive artistic experience between feature film, documentary, and audience dialogue. Those interested in international film culture, political imagery, and the aesthetic power of independent productions will experience an evening full of new perspectives at Gasteig HP8. Admission is free – a compelling reason to attend this special film event live.
