Caroline Wahl reads at the Prinzregententheater from 1999 Meters Above the Sea

On Sunday, October 18, 2026, Caroline Wahl brings her new novel 1999 Meters Above the Sea to the stage of the Munich Prinzregententheater. The author will read from her next literary chapter starting at 3:30 PM and opens the view to a story filled with longing, self-presentation, crash, and departure.

A new voice in contemporary German literature

Caroline Wahl is among the defining younger voices in contemporary German literature. Her debut novel 22 Lanes was awarded the Ulla-Hahn Author Prize and the Grimmelshausen Promotion Prize in 2023 and was chosen as the favorite book of independents. She continued her success story with Wind Force 17 and The Assistant.

1999 Meters Above the Sea: Between Departure and Self-Image

At the center of the new novel is a young woman who aspires to great heights and leaves much behind for it. The plot combines the urge for freedom with the question of how much people shape their own biography to be seen and recognized. Caroline Wahl's clear, direct language meets psychological tension and a modern perspective on self-presentation.

Literature live at the Prinzregententheater

A reading unfolds its own sound: the calm before the first sentence, the concentration in the hall, and the special dynamics between voice, text, and audience. In the historic Prinzregententheater, Wahl’s novel receives an impressive framework. The acoustics of the house carry every nuance of the stage performance, while rhythm, dialogue management, and precise reading make the literary dramaturgy immediately experienceable.
