A Hot Heart: A Biting Comedy with a Great Soul
On October 3, 2026, the theater VIEL LÄRM UM NICHTS in the Pasinger Fabrik will open its new production of Alexander N. Ostrowski's comedy A Hot Heart. The premiere leads into a grotesque world full of human weaknesses, quirky characters, and surprising twists – between sharp humor, social satire, and touching hope.
A Hero's Journey Against the Exigencies of the World
At the center are three young people seeking their own way. Parascha lives with a narcoleptic father and a toxic stepmother in a home she just wants to leave behind. When her beloved Wasja is wrongly accused of theft and forcibly conscripted, she begins a daring escape into an uncertain future together with the ostracized employee Gawrilo.
Ostrowski's comedy from 1869 combines grotesque exaggeration with keen observations of human behavior. In this society, people are deceived and deceive others, while wealth, power, and boredom blossom bizarrely. Amidst celestial falls and hellish openings, a story unfolds that, despite all its harshness, heads towards a reconciliatory ending.
Grotesque Characters, Precise Comedic Art
The production by Andreas Seyferth relies on an acting style that does not smooth out the absurd but makes it visible. The characters appear as lovable clowns, dangerous monsters, and contradictory humans, whose self-justifications are as comical as they are revealing. The dramaturgy leads directly into a panopticon of human vanity.
After Wolves and Sheep, the ensemble again dedicates itself to the Russian playwright often referred to as the Russian Molière. Ostrowski left behind 47 comedies, dramas, and dramatic chronicles and is among the most significant playwrights of Russian literature. His precise observation of social dependencies gives the piece an immediate political and human tension even today.
Set Design, Light, and Sound as Co-Players
Space design, costumes, masks, light, and sound create a theatrical atmosphere where the grotesque world of the piece unfolds physically and palpably. Michele Lorenzini is responsible for the space, Johannes Schrödl for costumes and masks, and Stefan Bettinger for the light. Ardhi Engl designs the soundscapes, thus creating an acoustic layer that amplifies the rhythm of the comedy.
On stage are Judith Bopp, Denis Fink, Julia Klassen, Paul Pakull, and Marvin Manio. The ensemble encounters Ostrowski's characters with wit, precision, and emotional openness. This creates a stage experience that fluctuates between exuberant comedic moments, social sharpness, and quiet empathy.
A Theater Evening Between Laughter and Revelation
A Hot Heart combines fast-paced scenes with a surprisingly tender story about self-assertion, love, and the courage to embark on new journeys. The audience can expect a production that does not morally condemn its characters but penetrates beneath their skin. It is from this that the comedy draws its lasting impact.
Those who appreciate Russian drama, grotesque theater, and vibrant ensemble work will experience an evening filled with wit, sound, light, and human warmth at the Pasinger Fabrik. Secure your tickets for the premiere and experience this unusual comedy live.
